A. Schulman, Inc. is engaged in the sale of plastic resins and compounds, which are used as raw materials by its customers. The Company combines basic resins purchased from plastic resin producers, and through mixing and extrusion processes, introduces additives that provide color, stabilizers, flame retardants or other enhancements that is required by a customer. These compounds are formulated in the Company's laboratories and are manufactured at 14 plastic compounding plants in North America and Europe. A. Schulman, Inc. markets its plastic compounds to manufacturers, custom molders and extruders of a variety of plastic products and parts. The compounds are produced for future delivery and are stored in the Company or public warehouses. Its offerings are classified into five product families: color and additive concentrates, engineered compounds, polyolefins, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and tolling.
